Many classic horror icons and other disturbing creatures share common characteristics. Pale skin, dark, sunken eyes, elongated faces, sharp teeth, and the like. These images inspire horror and revulsion in many, and with good reason. The characteristics shared by these faces are imprinted in the human mind.
Many things frighten humans instinctively. The fear is natural, and does not need to be reinforced in order to terrify. The fears are species-wide, stemming from dark times in the past when lightning could mean the burning of your tree home, predators could be hiding in the dark, heights could make poor footing lethal, and a spider or snake bite could mean certain death.
The question you have to ask yourself is this:
What happened, deep in the hidden eras before history began, that could effect the entire human race so evenly as to give the entire species a deep, instinctual, and lasting fear of pale beings with dark, sunken eyes, razor sharp teeth, and elongated faces?
… Just be careful out there.

Dead bodies + predators. Cavemen had imaginations too.

MYSTERY SOLVED.

does everyone suck this much when they start using a tablet or is it just me
anyway blogging this so i have something to look back on after i hopefully make some progress at not being terrible by the end of this summer

How fast were you drawing your lines? Some of them look pretty labored over.

not very fast, i was doing a bunch of gesture drawings with a website. at first i tried doing 30 second ones but i had practically no control over where the lines went, so by the end i upped it to two minutes each. so…maybe a couple seconds each. do you think i should stick with faster gestures?
i wish there was some book or something i could buy that gave out beginning tablet tips, but i havent been able to find anything

Gesture drawings really should be done pretty fast, you should be able to get an entire form roughly worked out in like, 10-20 seconds or something.
Gesture drawings really aren’t about getting just the right line, you have to move quick and try to get the essence of the form down.
I hate to just link to a google search but… here.

I certainly did!
It will definitely take a while to get used to drawing with a tablet. One thing to check is that the screen’s ratio is the same as your tablet’s so that lines have a better 1:1 ratio and you don’t have to draw an oval to make a circle. If you’re using a graphire tablet the new software lets you maps a certain portion of the screen to your tablet, or a certain portion of your table to the screen so you can get the ratios right.
Best advice is to just keep going, do all the basic exercises - even things like drawing simple figures or simply pages full of lines, circles, cross hatching. You’re re-training your hand-eye co-ordination, in a few weeks you should be much more confident with digital sketching.

Dance Commander

Also Known as Dominic Deegan Drinking Game
Here is the collected works of my contributions to the streams of Tesseraction and various international guests getting drunk and angry as they read a terrible webcomic.

According to DD, women need a heroic man to save them from the world. “My Hero!”

Character sketch for Tesseraction, the Film Noir detective Englishman with a penchant for terrible comics and liver damage.

Tess and guest Pinstripe Hourglass

Tess and guest Vengance of Pandas

Mookie’s idea of strong women: ridiculous muscles, large breasts, and sexual assault.

Mostly it’s the large breasts.

Mookie made soul eaters in hell look like zombies with long tongues. A little creativity and looking at our own natural world makes way for more imaginative and exciting creatures.

I think i based these off of an earthworm and a star-nosed mole.

Snowsong had elasto-tits.

They were out of control.

About time someone did that.

Smug + Snoutface = Dominic Deegan. I wonder if i could get this added to his site as legitimate fanart. And then kill myself.

“Sometimes magic is just bullshit.” - Mookie.

Yeeeeaaaaah….

In the comic women’s breasts seem to inflate as they are under physical threat/dying. The bigger/more sexualized they get, the closer to death the character is.

Dominic on the planes of nothing and explosive diarrhea.

Pinstripe always got something on his mind…

Early design for guest Vengeance with Pandas.

Now with more panda.

In mookie’s world, orcs are (Vegetarian) people with tusks. FUCKING BORING.

Trying to make three characters look different and have different silhouettes. Greg, Dominic, Luna.

Another guest and Stream hateartist, Mercuryhat!

The strip is rather inconsistent in it’s self-censorship of language. Because mookie is a manchild.

HEY MOOKIE DESIGN CLOTHES THAT DON’T LOOK LIKE FORMLESS HESSIAN SACKS.

I MEAN GOD DAMN I’M SHIT AT THIS AND I CAN STILL DO BETTER.

Greg is a shitheel to his girlfriend. When she asks why, his response is as above.

“Dicks, Catling Gun. Dicks everywhere.” Oh, pinstripe~~~

Dominic Deegan as played by Michael Cera?

The following strips were scripts made by SA users and stream viewers to fill in the blanks left by my lack of talent.

DDDG guest Catling Gun.
The act wasn’t heroic and this joke probably isn’t funny. (linked for tasteless material that may cause distress to some viewers.)

abbylark replied to your post: Oh hell here’s the gist of it

And don’t forget, Vriska read the diary, so she might have been trying to make him more like his ancestor. A lot of the stuff she tries to get him to do is the…

I think Tavros’ actions towards jade and his ‘fake confidence’ were modeled on Vriska. To Tavros, Vriska is the epitome of confidence. So if he wants to appear confident, he needs to be like her. The funny thing is, all of Vriska’s confidence is as fake as Tavros’, since she was merely playing life in accordance to her ancestor’s book and the magic cueball. Also funnily enough it is discovered that Mindfang herself used the crutch of the cueball. While Mindfang may have achieved more herself, all of them weren’t entirely relying on their own strengths and were ‘cheating’ or missing the point.

None of this matters though because John is dead.

homestuck update musings

-Trolls with ‘higher’ blood live longer lives, this giving an established reason for the hierarchy of the hemospectrum.

-Karkat’s ancestor led a rebellion known as the Sectarian Revolt, and was known as The Sufferer. It can be inferred that The Sufferer railed against the Hemospectrum and led a group of lowbloods against the highbloods, and got crushed. Since even mentioning the revolt or the symbol (Karkat’s symbol) is grounds for execution, even though the Sectarian Revolt was unsuccessful, it shook up the highbloods and gave them a good scare.
